Altar produce is the marketing company of the largest group of asparagus producers in Mexico. Vertically integrated we, as a group, grow, pack, ship, import and export the best quality fruits and vegetables. We represent over 50 years of expertise in the production and packing of asparagus.We have also introduced our new line of excellent quality commodities including green onions, radishes, cilantro, and spinach; our finest table grapes and a variety of chilli peppers. Altar produce represents a team of trained and experienced workers from our field operators, to our excellent sales staff commited to premium quality products and customer satisfaction.

Asparagus

Asparagus

Asparagus from Caborca and Mexicali is available from January through March and it represents 82% of our total production. Our South Baja asparagus, 18% of our total production, is available from October though December. Premium Quality Asparagus If ever a vegetable deserved to be called the king, it is asparagus! Wherher it is an oriental, european, or american dish, if it is fine cuisine, asparagus is a must have ingredient.

Green Onions

Grown in the Mexicali and San Luis valleys, which have the unique climate to produce the best quality green onions in the world, Altar's green onions are fresh, crisp, and always tender. Our green onions are hand-harvested, bunched, and trimmed in the fields, then transferred to our packing shed to be hydro-cooled and top iced.Altar's specifications are always consistent: 12" in length, with the roots trimmed to 3/8". Always a straight, green flute, with a white shank no longer than 4".

Spinach

Baja California is the land where we harvest our green and delicious spinach. Our talented people take care step by step of the growth of this rich and nutritious product. Our experience in agriculture supports the quality of our product, assuring to our customers that only clean and fresh spinach is coming to their table, just ready to serve and enjoy.

Radishes

Our radishes are well known for their vibrant color and strong crisp bite. Faring from the region of Mexicali/ San Luis where the ideal climate can be found for such a crop. Strong quality can be seen throughout the product which is why even the green leafs represent a strong green color. We supply radishes throughout certain time periods of the year, for more information pleasecontact our sales staff.

Peppers

Vast color peppers are an excellent ingredient to any type of dish. We encourage you to experience the quality that ALTAR can provide throughout this commodity.Peppers are currently not available.

Cilantro

They say a good Cilantro can be immediately experienced starting with its strong rich aroma. If that is the case ALTAR can provide you with some of the finest Cilantro available.Farmed in our San Luis/ Mexicali area where weather permits the highest quality Cilantro crop to be abundant.

Grapes

The desert of Caborca is a rich land, with the exact combination of temperature, soils and climate conditions to produce the finest table grapes.During the month of June, we come up with our two varietes of seedless grapes; Flame and Superior (Sugraone).Our expert field workers carefully select the reddest flames, uniform in size, color, with a nice green stem. Our sugraones are also hand picked, free from any wooden marks, always sweet and juicy. In the Field, we pack the pack the grapes in 8 lb. cartons (9x2 lb. bags). Immediately from the field, the grapes are taken to our cooling shed and are forced-air cooled. They are shipped in a refrigerated reefer to our cooler in Calexico, never breaking the cold chain.

HISTORY

In 1975, they moved to Caborca, wich is located in the "Gran Desierto de Altar", the largest desert in Mexico, and introduced the asparagus crop in this area. The temperature in Caborca is some dregrees cooler than Mexicali's, the soil is deeper and less salty. the results were excellent quality asparagus, with a sweet taste, dark green color, and a longer shelf life.
Back in 1955, our visionary growers deciced to introduce the asparagus crop in the Mexicali Valley, a desert whereonly cotton had been grown.The desert presented ideal conditions to grow asparagus. Its only two seasons, winter and summer, are well defined, and since it rarely rains, the grower can control the vegetative cycle of the crop.

Altar Produce is located in Calexico, CA, right at the border with Mexicali, Mexico. Calexico is in the main shipping area for vegetables during the winter desert season. Our cooling facility allows us to ships out over 75 truckloads a day. With our own fleet of trucks, our product arrives to our coolers within 24 hours of harvest, so it is possible to have our product at the supermarkets within 48 hours of harvest.

We are located only a 250 miles away from Los Angeles CA., so we can deliver our product to the airport or seaport in one day, for the convenience of our overseas customers.
